CIS 110 – Introduction to Computers

PROJECT #2

INTERNET RESEARCH

Each student will find and review 10 different web sites, following one of the themes listed below:

Hardware Training and Information

Finding a Job in the Computer Industry

Top Ten Computer Online Tutorials

Ethics and the computer Industry

Students will provide links to the sites chosen. The entire project will be saved in WordPad or MS Word and sent via email to the instructor. Reviews must provide detailed analysis of the following important information:

Validity of the source information

User-friendly interface

Reliable AND informative links

Students seeking an "A" grade for superior effort in this project will not limit themselves to the above-listed review criteria. Detailed analysis of the information provided and its value to users are essential in a competent review.

IMPORTANT TIPS:

The most common error is to fail to explain WHY a particular site is of value (or not!). For example:

Not-so-good: "This site sucks."

Neato: "Navigating the site was difficult due to the lack of user-friendly links. We could not find…"

WHY is the site poorly designed? WHAT couldn’t you find? HOW could it be improved?

As you examine sites, keep in mind the TARGET AUDIENCE. Just because YOU may find the site difficult to navigate, or dry in content, does not mean the target audience will think so. What level of computer competency does the site require? Is it reasonable that such a level be required of its target audience?
